Overview of 4 week Calming the Anxious Mind Course

During this four week course, you will be led to a different perceptive on worry and anxiety that will help you cope better with it in your daily life.  Employing the latest understanding from neuroscience research and clinical practice, you will learn helpful techniques for calming your anxious mind.

The highly participatory class will be a mix of psycho-education and experiential learning. We will learn about the parts and functions of the brain that underlie the mind's relationship to anxiety and how our understanding of 'neuroplasticity' can help us change that functioning to calm the anxious mind. 

The specific themes addressed in the program are:
Class 1: Understanding Anxiety and the Brain ,
Class 2: Developing  Body Awareness,
Class 3: Responding, not Reacting,
Class 4: Relating to Thoughts and Emotions are Mental Events.

The core of the course is an introduction to 'mindfulness'- a way of paying attention, on purpose and non-judgmentally, to what goes on in the present moment in your body, your mind, and the world around you.  Mindfulness can enable you to see things differently, undoing mental and physical knots and tensions.  It can increase your sense of personal confidence, giving you more options and more strength to face the various challenges in your life.
